Indya Moore Reinvents the Classics with Tommy Hilfiger

Draped in a classic baby-blue striped shirtdress and leaning toward the camera like they might swoop in for a kiss, Pose superstar and non-binary activist Indya Moore looks perfectly in command. As part of the launch of a new capsule collection co-designed with Tommy Hilfiger, the actor assembled a group of activists for a shoot in the Bronx, helmed by photographer Myles Loftin and showing off select pieces from the new collaboration. Each soft, pastel-toned image invokes a nostalgia reinvented; with each garment, Moore has taken a Tommy classic—say, the striped button-down, for instance—and reworked it for a modern (and, importantly, gender-neutral) audience.

Size-inclusive and versatile for work and play, the partnership launched in the U.S. as of July 13 on and includes a variety of tops and bottoms, such as a satin-linen sailing jacket, basketball shorts, a pinstripe blazer, and a cropped sequin tee. Accessories include a bucket hat with gold charms, braided sandals, a denim camera bag, and a bandeau ascribed with Moore’s own signature. The colors keep to Tommy Hilfiger favorites: muted whites, blues, greys, and golds, with the occasional splash of red.

A notable aspect about the capsule is its intentional fluidity. No piece is meant to be worn exactly the same way across different models. Shoulders are dropped and widened to better suit an array of body types. Adaptable silhouettes—the linen lounge pant, for instance, features an adjustable leg cord to tweak length and shape—allow for a comfortable fit. And Moore infused items with a taste of their own history, from the “Bronx” lettering on the collegiate sweatshirt to the lotus flower graphic that pops up on select garments, a nod to Moore’s own growth as the actor came into their own.

“This capsule goes beyond great style,” Moore explained in a press statement. “It breaks a cycle and sets a new standard across the industry. Too many people are made to feel that something is wrong with them just for being themselves. It means everything to me to know that with our capsule, no one is made to feel wrong or different or broken. Everyone works perfectly for this collection, no matter who they are.”

Activists whom Moore picked to show off the clothes included multimedia artist Chella Man, model and activist Gia Love, model and actor Cory Walker, and Pidgeon, co-founder of the Intersex Justice Project, who each assembled for a series of shots meant to invoke the feel of ’90s R&B. “Aaliyah is one of my favorite artists, and when I think about Tommy Hilfiger, I think about her,” Moore stated ahead of the capsule’s release.

Captured on leather couches, lounging in barber shop chairs, stretched out beside old arcade games, or perched atop coin-operated laundry machines, the models perfectly evoke the infusion of classic and creative that characterizes Moore’s collection. If only all fashion brands were this eager for reinvention.
