Some fans didn’t realize he was her love interest in the show, assumed they were dating, and harassed him. Gomez said, “we had just started working together. I honestly thought, ‘No wonder guys don’t want to date me!’ I think people only care [about my love life] because I’m young, and the older I get the less they’ll care. For now it’s a part of the job that I don’t really like. I’m actually grateful that I’m not involved with anyone right now.”
A source echoed this to Entertainment Tonight in December. “She is comfortable dating, but also comfortable being single,” the source said. “She’s not rushing into anything whatsoever. Selena is focusing on what makes her happy and what feels good to her—whether that’s a relationship or not.”
