Archie is going to be a big brother. Meghan Markle and Prince Harry announced that the Duchess of Sussex is expecting her second child. The news comes less than two years after the birth of Archie, their beloved son. It also comes months after Meghan revealed she suffered a miscarriage last summer.

“We can confirm that Archie is going to be a big brother. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are overjoyed to be expecting their second child,” a spokesperson for the couple revealed. A photo of the expectant couple, taken by friend and photographer Misan Harriman, was also shared.

Harry spoke previously about how the couple only plan to have two kids at most in a British Vogue interview. When speaking about climate change to Dr. Jane Goodall, he said becoming a dad changed the way he looked at the issue.

“It does make it different,” he started. “I think, weirdly, because of the people that I’ve met and the places that I’ve been fortunate enough to go to, I’ve always had a connection and a love for nature. I view it differently now, without question. But I’ve always wanted to try and ensure that, even before having a child and hoping to have children…”

“Not too many!” Goodall interjected, laughing.

“Two, maximum!” Harry said. “But I’ve always thought: this place is borrowed. And, surely, being as intelligent as we all are, or as evolved as we all are supposed to be, we should be able to leave something better behind for the next generation.”

Meghan and Harry spoke in October to the Evening Standard about how their son is doing in their new California home. The couple is now living in Montecito.

“[Archie] is so good,” Meghan said. “We are very lucky with our little one. He is just so busy, he is all over the place. He keeps us on our toes. We are just so lucky.”
